The Essentials Pass is the smaller of the two Gothenburg Pass variants. You visit three attractions and have 30 days from your first scan to do so. The three, however, are not a free choice: one comes from a premium list of three options, the other two from a standard list of seven.

Your first scan starts the window. The three visits can fall on any days within it; they don't need to be consecutive.
Weighing it up
The choice rule almost nobody mentions
Go City markets the pass as "three attractions". That's true, but it sounds more open than it is. Exactly one of your three choices must come from the premium list, and that list has only three entries: Universeum, the Paddan City Canal Tour and Prison Island Gothenburg. The other two come from a standard list of seven museums. So you can't pick three museums, and you can't choose from the premium list twice either.
What's missing entirely: the big boat tours. The Archipelago Tour, the boat excursion to Vinga Island, the trip around Hisingen and the hop-on hop-off bus don't appear on either list. If you're travelling to Gothenburg to reach the archipelago, the Essentials Pass is the wrong pick.
Who it still suits: longer stays without a sightseeing marathon. The 30-day window is the real advantage. If you're in Gothenburg for two weeks on business and want to do something on three evenings, a day pass buys you nothing, while the Essentials Pass fits. If you have three full days ahead of you instead, put the All-Inclusive Pass alongside it: the price difference is modest, and the choice far bigger.

Can I choose any three attractions? +
No. Exactly one choice must come from the premium list (Universeum, the Paddan City Canal Tour, Prison Island Gothenburg), and the other two from the standard list of seven museums. The split is fixed; you can't swap it around.
Are the archipelago tours included? +
No. The guided Archipelago Tour, the boat excursion to Vinga Island and the trip around Hisingen don't appear on either list. They're only available with the All-Inclusive Pass or as separate tickets from the operator.
Do the three visits have to happen on the same day? +
No, quite the opposite. You have 30 days from your first scan. That's the real difference from the All-Inclusive Pass, whose days run back to back.
